With the popularization of library management informatization, how to realize the rapid borrowing and return of books, and how to improve the efficiency of librarians in inventory and sorting books, has always been a bottleneck restricting the development of the library management industry. The use of RFID in library can identify, track and protect the books and materials in the library through RFID technology, realize the intelligentization of library books, such as borrowing and returning, searching, and inventorying, which greatly improves the efficiency of administrators, reduces the labor intensity of librarians, and improves the intelligent level of library management.
As early as the 1990s, RFID technology in libraries had been widely used. In 1998, the North American Library proposed to use the RFID technology solution as a way for readers to borrow and return. After that, the Rockefeller University Library in New York was the first to install the RFID system. In 1999, the Farmington Community Library in Michigan became the first public library to use this technology. In 2002, the National Library of Singapore released the first library management system in Asia that fully deployed RFID, taking the lead in introducing the use of RFID in libraries. After the use of RFID in library, the borrowing rate in libraries has increased by 30 times, human resources have been reduced by about 2,000 people, and annual costs of 28 million US dollars have been saved. Very significant results have been achieved in improving management efficiency and improving service levels.
The barcode information of the book is written into the electronic label, so that the electronic label replaces the barcode to become the "identity card" of the book, so that the book management can realize the function of multiple book identification. Therefore, the smart library management system using RFID is a technical solution based on the existing foundation of traditional libraries.
All this shows that the library has reached a consensus on the use of RFID technology to realize the intelligent management of the library. In order to better serve the vast number of book lovers, it is imperative for the library to improve the efficiency of book management through RFID.
